Pelé in hospital with urinary infection

Pelé

The king of Brazilian football, Pelé, was diagnosed with a urinary infection after going to hospital in São Paulo for a follow-up appointment to the operation which he underwent two weeks ago to have kidney stones removed, his aides have told the local press.
GloboEsporte reports that the 74-year-old will be treated with antibiotics and that his doctors have yet to decide how long he will have to stay in hospital. Pelé was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital on November 12 with severe abdominal pain caused by kidney stones, which were removed in an operation the following day.
The former footballer was discharged on November 15, and has since been resting at his home in the coastal city of Guarujá, around 100 kilometres from São Paulo.
The hospital did not immediately release any information on the state of Pelé’s health or reveal whether he would have to spend the night at the clinic.

I survived cancer, says Soyinka

Prof. Wole Soyinka

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Tuesday gave a chilling account of how he contracted prostate cancer last December and got cured of it in October 2014.
Soyinka disclosed this on Tuesday at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, while addressing journalists at a press conference tagged ‘Beyond Ebola and Beyond reign of the Silent Killer,’ which was meant to create awareness on cancer.
Though he neither gave details of where and how he got cured, he described the ailment as a ‘nuisance which must be got rid of.’
The literary icon said having got cured of the disease, he decided to make his health status public so as to encourage cancer victims to go for medical treatment.
Soyinka also noted that cancer should not be regarded as a death sentence.
He said, “In December last year, I discovered that I had cancer, we were making sure that, that was what it was before going for other tests. And once it was established that I did have cancer and I was sure because in my family we had an uncle, at the time he died, we did not have all the sophisticated ways of knowing how he died.
“What killed him was attributed to a lot of things. From the little things I know about cancer, I came to a conclusion that he died of cancer, maybe we have it in our family.”
Soyinka said as a private person he would have been silent on it, but he decided to make it public being a member of the Africa Cancer Centre.
He said, “For me, it is not a decision that I am happy with, but I felt I have an obligation being a member of the Africa Cancer Centre and also having donated during the festival of fund raising for cancer, I felt I owe people an obligation to make it known and also to demystify cancer, many people feel it’s death sentence. Family, friends and colleagues begin to look at you as if you are a ghost, just because you have cancer.”
Encouraging cancer patients, Soyinka said that they should know that cancer affliction should not be seen as a death sentence.
“No, cancer is not a death sentence, it is curable and I have undergone treatment and I am able to tell you that I even   have a medal to show for it,” he said.
Soyinka, who said he was okay, appealed to Nigerians who have his kind of case to go for test within the available facilities in the country.
But he urged the Federal Government to treat the issue of cancer seriously by releasing the fund already budgeted for cancer treatment and construction of research centres in the country.
He said, “The important thing is that we have enough funds to build all the necessary cancer centres including research centres that this nation requires, though some of these centres are capital intensive.”
He added that funding should not be a challenge for the creation of cancer centres because money for it had been budgeted for during the late President Umaru Yar’adua’s administration.
He said, “One of the major reasons why I decided that I would come and make this personal appeal is that I happen to know that certain amount of money had been approved for cancer centre under the late President Umaru Yar’adua and I want to make a personal appeal that this money be released because not all of us can gallivant a round the world where we can stop over and have the necessary treatment.
“At least, we can have diagnostic centres everywhere where elementary treatment can be given to patients.”
He explained that there were many ways of treating cancer just like there were different types of cancer.
Soyinka, however, advised the people to watch what they eat, as according to him, “diet forms an important part of cancer.”
Speaking on his experience while undergoing treatment for cancer, Soyinka said the most difficult part of the process was the diet that was prescribed for him.
He said, “I have to drink a lot of water. The most painful part of it, as many of you know, is that water and I are not very good friends. I don’t enjoy drinking water.”
Asked how he felt when he was battling with prostate cancer, he said, “To tell you the truth, I do not recollect what I felt. What a nuisance, we deal with nuisances! Whatever it takes, just look at the best way of getting rid of this unwanted squatter in our body.”

[UPDATE] Two suicide bombers kill 45 in Maiduguri market

Maiduguri market
Update:
A military source told our correspondent in Maiduguri that the suicide bombers hit the market at 11:23am.
Craving anonymity, the source said on the telephone, “I can confirm that there were two suicide bombers, but they are a male and female. The first suicide bomber was a female and hid the bomb on herself which she detonated at the vicinity of the market.
“Just as the people gathered around her corpse and a few other people that died in the first explosion, a male, this time around, detonated the explosive on him which killed several people.
“No one can give you the exact casualty now but over 30 persons were killed and many have been rushed to the hospital.”
*****************************************************************************************
Two suicide bombers – a male and female – attacked a heavily populated Maiduguri market, killing scores of people, an eyewitness, Yusuf Ahmed, said on Tuesday.
An unconfirmed source said 65 corpses had been evacuated while others claimed 30 people were killed in the explosion.
Ahmed said on the telephone, “As I am talking to you, people are still trying to rescue the injured and evacuate the corpses. It is difficult to know the number of casualties.”
He said the place had been condoned off by security agencies making it difficult to assist in the rescue operations.
A youth vigilante source confirmed that the female attacker kept a parcel in one of the shops on One-way, a commercial area beside the popular Monday Market, telling the traders that she had something to pick from the market,
“The package detonated few minutes later. And as people were still wondering what happened and trying to rescue the injured, a bomber in the same area detonated a bomb planted on her; this claimed so many lives,” the source said.
Details later…
Another source claimed that the third bombing suspect was caught by the people. This also could not be confirmed as the police had yet to give an official confirmation of the explosion.

Messi eyes more history

Lionel Messi
Fresh from becoming the all-time leading goalscorer in La Liga, Lionel Messi will have his sights on more history as he looks to repeat that feat in the Champions League when Barcelona visit APOEL Nicosia on Tuesday, AFP reports.
Messi’s double in the Catalans’ 2-0 win at Ajax three weeks ago took him level with Real Madrid legend Raul’s record tally of 71 goals in the competition and ensured Barca’s progress to the last 16 for an 11th consecutive season.
However, Luis Enrique’s men still need at least a point in Cyprus to ensure they can win Group F with victory over PSG at home in their final group match early next month.
Messi’s latest record feat overshadowed arguably Barca’s best performance of the season so far in crushing Europa League holders Sevilla 5-1 at the weekend, with the Argentine scoring his 27th hat-trick for the club along with goals from Neymar and Ivan Rakitic.
Luis Suarez’s attempts to break his Barcelona duck were frustrated once more but Enrique has no concerns over the Urguayan’s ability to find the back of the net as he again proved his worth with a fourth assist in as many games.
“It will come. To have a goalscorer of that quality and generosity is marvellous,” said Enrique.
“They are all playing for each other. No one doubts that Suarez will score many goals for Barcelona.”

Sultan, Oritsejafor clash over Boko Haram

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, on Monday openly disagreed on the continued violence being unleashed on parts of the country by Boko Haram.
While Abubakar said Islamic leaders had “tried so much” to preach against the activities of the sect, Oritsejafor said they had not done enough in reaching out to the insurgents and making them understand the true teachings of Islam.
The two religious leaders spoke at a round-table meeting with special advisers on religious affairs from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The programme, which was declared open by Vice-President Namadi Sambo, was organised by the Offices of the Senior Special Assistants to the President on Islamic and Christian matters.
It had “Toward synergising and interfacing in the religious sector for national development” as its theme.
Abubakar, who is also the leader of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, had in his remarks said there was no problem between Islam and Christianity. He argued that if there was   any problem between Christians and Muslims, such matter should be dealt with at that level.
He heaped the blame on what he described as lack of education about religions which breeds lack of trust and sincerity.
The Sultan regretted that while Islamic leaders had continued to condemn the insurgents, they were still being accused of not doing enough.
This, he said, was not fair to the religious leaders.
He said he had personally gone across the globe to preach peace and uphold the fact that there was no problem between adherents of Islam and Christianity.
In his quest for peaceful relationship between the followers of the two religions, the Sultan said he had written two separate lengthy letters to the   Pope and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
He said when people were asking Islamic leaders to sit with insurgents and discuss, they fail to note that the current situation could not be compared to the activities of militants in the Niger Delta.
Abubakar said, “In a situation where Muslim leaders condemn insurgents and they will still be told they have not done enough. That is not fair.
“We don’t tell ourselves the truth. Followers are not telling the leaders the truth, and the leaders will think they are doing the right things.
“If the governor in Sokoto is told that he should sponsor four people to Christian pilgrimage, so be it. It is government’s fund. If a land is needed in Kano for a church, they should get it after following the due process.
“Muslim leaders have tried so much. I have gone across the globe to say that there is no problem between Islam and Christianity.
“We wrote to the Pope, the document is titled the Common World – published in 2010. He replied us and since that time, we have been having meetings.
“We also wrote to the ISIS to tell them that they should not continue to do what they are doing in the name of Islam. If we read those documents we must trust what we have said.
“If we don’t trust one another, we cannot move forward. If we say one thing here and go back to our states to do other things, we have wasted our time and resources.”
While urging followers to stop telling their leaders what they want to hear, the Sultan said he and Oritsejafor had, two years ago, written a letter to President Goodluck Jonathan on how to end the Boko Haram violence.
He said he again called the President’s attention to the letter when they were invited recently to an expanded meeting of the Security Council.
The monarch explained that he had told the President that they had done their best because they could only advise the government.
He said, “Followers should stop telling the leaders what they want to hear. We wrote a letter to the President on what to do to end the scourge about two years ago.”
Abubakar also noted that religious leaders under the auspices of the Nigeria Inter Religious Council had been meeting and going round the country to interact.
He said members of the council had not been able to meet in the last one and a half years because of insecurity.
The Sultan alleged that while they decided to move an earlier meeting fixed for Gombe State to Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation failed to release funds to them.
He said like every other Nigerians, Islamic leaders also feel the pain of insurgency because   one life lost, especially to insurgency, meant a lot to them.
Mohammed reiterated his position that the insurgents were not committing the atrocities in the name of Islam.
The Sultan advised that as the 2015 general elections approach,   politicians should carry out their campaigns without reference to candidates’ religious or ethnic background or colour.
Oritsejafor, in his reaction, commended Abubakar for writing the ISIS, saying he had not heard about the letter before.
He however called on the Sultan to also write another letter to the Boko Haram, which according to him, had killed more people than the ISIS.
The CAN President said since Boko Haram members have clerics they listen to, Islamic leaders must find a way of reaching out to them and present the teachings of true Islam to them.
Oritsejafor said the insurgents would not listen to him but would rather kill him fast if he dared to reach out to them.
He said, “His Eminence said he wrote a letter to the   ISIS. I have to truly congratulate you for that because that was a very good move. I didn’t know about it until now and I am so glad it happened.
“But I want to appeal that you also write to Boko Haram because Boko Haram is worse than the ISIS. They have killed more people than the ISIS, they have caused more atrocities than the ISIS, they need to be written to as well, it is very important; it will help.
“I have made an appeal several times that there are some of our leaders who must come together: religious, political and traditional. They must come and discuss.
“I have been told that Boko Haram members , to a very large extent, are very vast in scriptures. What scriptures do they use?
“There are still religious clerics that they respect. If these people are not presenting the right thing and are misrepresenting Islam, which I agree it is so to a very large extent, we agree that our brothers should reach out to them so that the real Islam can be presented to them.
“They won’t listen to me, in fact, they will kill me faster than anything else if I go to them, oh yes, that is the truth.   I am aware of that. In fact, as I speak, I know what is going on around me all the time, so I know.”
While admitting that insurgents also kill Muslims, Oritsejafor said Muslims fall victims to the sect for two reasons.
According to him, Muslims who are killed are those who disagree with the sect’s ideology or those who refuse to work with them by giving information.
He described as painful and disheartening, a situation where all churches in Mubi in Adamawa State and other places had been levelled.
He also decried a situation where a state governor would vow that he would not use government money to sponsor adherents of a particular religion on pilgrimage.
The CAN leader said it was not enough for religious leaders to say sweet things, they must   match their words with actions.
He continued, “The problem with gatherings like this is that if we are not careful, it becomes an occasion for good photographs, shaking of hands and   talking very nicely.
“We don’t want to offend each other. Please let us offend each other, we need to. Because if we don’t offend each other, we will not tell each other the truth and that is part of Nigeria’s problems.
“If you come out to say certain things, there are those who feel you are rocking the boat but God is in the boat, the boat will not sink.
“Let us talk to each other, let us tell the truth to each other, let us not sweep it under the carpet.
“It is true that Islam and Christianity have no problem. I am glad you (Sultan) said there could be problem between Christians and Muslims.
“Why should a church in the North for the past 30 years not get a Certificate of Occupancy? Any mosque or church in any part of the country should be able to get C of O.
“Why is it that people will want to build a place of worship in a particular part of the country and they will not get land?
“We must create a level playing field for everybody; we   must deal with everybody equally.’’
Sambo, who represented Jonathan said religion, as a guide for mankind, must be applied as a guiding light against the backdrop of all the problems confronting the nation.
He added that religion must be used for conflict resolution, sustenance of   peace and the establishment of a just and egalitarian society.
The vice-president said the activities of the insurgents would not deter the government from positively transforming the lives of the citizens.
He added, “We are working round-the-clock to transform all facets of our socio-economic and political lives.
“Let me reiterate that we remain resolute in our quest to provide positive development to Nigerians anchored on peace and harmony. We equally remain unwavering in our commitment to bringing an end to the security challenges confronting our dear nation.
“It is worthy of note to state that the threats posed by senseless insurgents who masquerade themselves under the guise and toga of religion to perpetrate their lawless acts will not in any way distract us from our quest to positively transform the lives of Nigerians.
“Our transformation agenda has positively impacted on the lives of Nigerians and we are committed to the continuous delivery of democratic dividends and good governance to our people.”
Sambo said all Nigerians should strive towards promoting inter-religious harmony and dialogue at all times for peace and development to thrive, adding that no meaningful development could be achieved without peace and security.
He said, “I urge us all to live according to the noble tenets and dictates of our religions. We should continue to assist government with prayers and positive counselling and desist from making inciting statements and comments capable of causing disharmony and breach of the peace.
“It should be noted that, by the teaching of our faiths, we shall all account for our deeds in the hereafter. I therefore admonish you to live by example always and to do good for the development of our country and humanity.”
A former Head of Service of the Federation, Yayale Ahmed, who was the chairman of the occasion, had earlier asked all Nigerians to abide by the codes of conduct of their religions.
Ahmed called on them to avoid pretence and work together as brothers and sisters.
He warned that everybody would account to God for whatever they did either in pretence or in sincerity.

Senators initiate move to impeach Jonathan

Nigeria Senate
Some Peoples Democratic Party’s senators on Monday started impeachment moves against President Goodluck Jonathan over what they described as the high level of impunity and corruption allegedly being condoned by his administration.
Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the PDP senators had started compiling impeachable offences against the President.
An All Progressives Congress member of the Senate, who confided the development in our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, explained that his aggrieved PDP colleagues in the upper chamber had started reaching out to the opposition senators.
He said, “I was personally consulted this evening over the issue and I also cross-checked from my colleagues who also told me that they had been contacted.
“The grouse of the lawmakers, according to the person that contacted me, was that Jonathan’s handling of the last week Thursday’s invasion of the National Assembly by the police was carelessly handled by the Jonathan administration.
“From the look of things, the proceedings will start on Tuesday because some signatures had been collected already.”
Another senator from the PDP, who also craved anonymity, also confirmed the development to our correspondent stating that it was certain that the President was not capable of superintending over a free and fair election in 2015.
He said, “Our President is not in charge. We have seen that he had allowed the governors to hijack powers from him. He is just like a puppet and the earlier we act fast, the better for us.”
Meanwhile, opposition members in the Senate have threatened to raise the issue of the last Thursday’s invasion of the National Assembly by the security operatives, when the Senate resumes plenary today (Tuesday).
The spokesperson for the group, who is also the member representing Ekiti Central on the platform of the APC, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, gave the hint in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja.
Ojudu said his colleagues were very annoyed with the ways they were maltreated and molested by the policemen, who were deployed in the National Assembly on the orders of the Inspector – General of Police.
He said majority of his members were of the opinion that the IGP should not be allowed to enter into the chambers, but should be asked to resign for allegedly ridiculing the federal lawmakers who had done nothing wrong other than going to carry out their lawful legislative activities.
He said, “We (APC Senators) are holding a crucial meeting this (Monday) night to take a final decision on the matter because   majority of us are really angry. Some are even of the opinion that we should demand the resignation or sacking of the IGP.
“I can assure you that the issue of the National Assembly invasion by the police would be raised when we resume sitting tomorrow (Tuesday ), but we are going to take a single position on the matter at our meeting tonight,” he added.
However, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Media and Public Affairs, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, had in an interview with our correspondent, on Saturday, maintained that the Senate would not be thrown into any chaotic situation over the Thursday’s invasion of the National Assembly complex by security operatives.
He had admitted that the IGP would appear before the Senate but assured the public that the matter would be handled with maturity.
He had said, “The Senate will discuss the invasion of the National Assembly by security operatives when it reconvenes on Tuesday. Already we have invited the Inspector – General of Police to find out who gave the order for the harassment of federal lawmakers last Thursday.
“So, I do not anticipate any form of stormy session during our sitting next Tuesday. I can assure you that the Senate is made up of gentlemen and women who are very senior citizens of the Nigerian society.
“Therefore, you cannot expect the Senate to act, except in a decorous manner.”
Abaribe also said that the Senate would still go ahead with deliberations on the emergency rule in the three north-eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe contrary to insinuations that the matter had ended since the period of emergency had lapsed.
He said, “We had invited the service chiefs and we will find out from them, the update on the insurgency situation in the north-eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe so that we can address the issue of the state of emergency requested by President Goodluck Jonathan.”

APC Governors Forum slams police for tear-gassing Reps

Okorocha 12

Chairman of the APC Governors’ forum, and the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has described the action of the security agents who did not only deny members of the House of Representatives access to the House but also tear-gassed them, as shameful and unfortunate.
Okorocha who spoke on behalf of the forum yesterday described the incident as a disgrace to the nation’s growing democracy, and the worst known incident in the history of the country’s National Assembly.
“What happened at the National Assembly on Thursday was condemnable by all lovers of democracy. It was not a good thing to the image of the nation. It was a slap on the face of our democracy. The National Assembly of every nation is seen as a very powerful propeller in her democracy. And ours won’t be an exception. So, our democracy was disgraced. Our National Assembly members were disgraced and invariably Nigerians who they represent were also disgraced by the singular action of the police.
“It is important to add that using the police to intimidate the members of the National Assembly was unacceptable. Again, using tear gas on the National Assembly members was equally despicable. It was an insult to all Nigerians of goodwill, and all lovers of democratic ideals in the country,” he said.
According to Okorocha, “the police who are Nigerians should help the country’s democracy to grow, as it is in the interest of Nigerians to have a united and democratic nation, including the police”
His words: “It will also be an honourable act for the police, as a highly responsible institution to apologise to Nigerians and members of the National Assembly for what happened last Thursday. That would not be seen as a mark of weakness, but would only portray the force as a strong institution with personnel who appreciate democratic ideals and ethos.”
It is hoped that such ugly scenario will not happen again in the best interest of the nation and her citizenry,” Governor Okorocha added.

Dozens dead in Morocco flash flood

Flash flooding in southern Morocco has reportedly killed at least 30 people, with many others still missing.
Heavy storms have swept across several regions including tourist hub Marrakesh, where torrential rain destroyed many mud homes on Sunday.
Roads and highways were blocked off, making it hard for emergency crew to reach people.
The “exceptional” storms also swept across the regions of Guelmim, Agadir and Ouarzazate, and a search was under way for the missing, the authorities said.
Journalist Brahim Boulid, reporting from Guelmim, told Al Jazeera on Monday that the death toll stood at 31, including eight members of the same family who died after floods swept away their vehicle.
The Arabic-language dailies Al Massae and Al Ahdath gave death tolls of 16 and 22 respectively.
Some 130 all-terrain rescue vehicles and 335 Zodiac inflatables and other boats were being used, the interior ministry said, in a statement carried by the North African country’s MAP news agency.
The agency said at least 14 people remained missing in Guelmim, 200km south of Agadir.
The national weather service warned that an alert over more heavy rainfall would remain in place until midday on Monday.
It said around 100 mud-brick homes were partly or totally destroyed in the south, and 100 roads cut off, including six national highways.
Boulid told Al Jazeera that authorities were warned that the amount of rainfall would trigger floods but choose to ignore them.
“It was forecast that more than 100 millimetres of rain would fall, but nothing has been done. They just waited for the catastrophe to unfold,” Boulid said.
Flash floods are common in Morocco, where four children drowned in the south in September when they were swept away.

‘Messi is unique’

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique feels Lionel Messi is a unique talent whose abilities will never be replicated.
And Enrique says he is honoured to be the Argentinean’s coach after he became the top goalscorer in Primera Division history on Saturday night, Sky Sports reports.
Messi scored a hat-trick as Enrique’s side beat Sevilla 5-1 at the Nou Camp to overtake Telmo Zarra’s scoring record with his 253rd goal in his 289th appearance.
“I have never seen a player like Messi,” Enrique said in his post-match press conference.
“I feel lucky to be his manager. Nobody can be compared to him. He’s one-of-a-kind and we’ll never see anyone like him ever again and we are privileged to have him and be able to watch him.”
Messi paid tribute to those who helped him achieve the milestone.
“When I scored this goal, I couldn’t imagine I could break any record, let alone this one previously held by the great Telmo Zarra,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
“I was only able to achieve this because of the support I have had from so many people during my time here and I would like to dedicate this achievement to you all.
“Thanks for always being with me. I would also like to dedicate this to the people who are no longer with us anymore. I will never forget you. Thank you everyone for standing with me!”

Kwankwaso berates Presidency over insecurity

Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwakwanso
Kano State Governor and a presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has berated the Federal Government for not using the right measures to tackle ravaging insecurity in the North-East.
Kwankwaso, who was in Ogun State to see Governor Ibikunle Amosun, on Friday, lamented the effect of insurgency in the northeastern states of Yobe, Adamawa and Borno, among others.
Kwankwaso also chided the Jonathan administration for what he termed “the worsening economic situation in the country.”
The aspirant was received by the Secretary to the State Government, Adeoluwa Taiwo, as Amosun had travelled out of the state.
Kwankwaso noted that the PDP had not allowed a level playing field by conceding the party’s presidential ticket to Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, thus shutting other aspirants out of the race.
He said the PDP had extended its reign of impunity to the National Assembly, where security men used teargas on lawmakers.
He said, “You saw what happened at the National Assembly. Nobody is happy about that. Everybody is angry and shocked about it. It is a sign of the impunity we have been talking about.”
“We saw the signs early and decided to leave (the PDP). The PDP printed one form for one man. We have never seen anything like that. This time, the PDP is as weak as any other party in the past. It is presenting only one man. Nigerians have tested him and nobody is happy with his performance. There is no better place than APC.
“Four million Nigerians have been displaced because of insurgency. Thousands are in Niger, thousands are in Chad. The President and the PDP are whipping up religious and ethnic sentiments around it to polarise the nation to win election.
“Our military used to be known for its strength and valour. They had demonstrated that in Sierra Leone, Dafur and other places. Today, we have a situation that is contrary to what we knew before.
“It has to do with the leadership at the top. It has to do with the capacity of the leadership at the top; it has to do with the political will of the leadership. The APC has the capacity and the political will to provide the leadership needed to salvage the nation.
“The insurgents have no place initially. They were roaming from one place to another. Now, they have carved out territories for themselves, hoisted flags and changed names. But the APC, if voted into power at the centre, would provide the leadership capacity and political will to defeat the insurgents.”

PDP clears Orubebe in Delta, holds Lagos congresses

Godsday Orubebe
Ex-minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe, has been given the nod by the Peoples Democratic Party to contest the party’s governorship primary in Delta State.
The Ambassador Obed Wadzani-led South-South zonal screening committee of the PDP gave the former minister the clearance after the screening in Port Harcourt, on Saturday.
The party congress is scheduled to hold on December 7 and 8, 2014.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Orubebe Governorship Campaign Orgainsation in Abuja, on Sunday.
Meanwhile, following the cancellation of the November 1, 2014 ward congresses of the PDP in Lagos, the state chapter of the party says it will hold its ward congresses on Monday (today).
The party, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Taofik Gani, said the congresses would take place from 12pm across the 245 wards in the state.
He said, “While the party wishes its members a happy congress, it is also quick to admonish its members to participate in the process as law-abiding citizens and loyal members of the PDP. It warns detractors and opposition-sponsored thugs to steer clear of the congress venues as any intruder or agent provocateur shall be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land.”

Happy Birthday Davido

davido one of a kind Happy Birthday DavidoDavido
Love him, hate him, be indifferent about him… history will never go down without the mention of David Adeleke once the topic of music and entertainment is raised. Too many things (or perhaps a few), make Davido a special breed of celebrity. He was born into a life of comfort and while he constantly comes off as one who’s has had everything handed to him on a gold platter, Davido has gone on to pushing himself through limits that were set for him. With sheer dedication and a dint of hardwork (some of us prefer the word ‘relentlessness’), the young lad worked his way up the ladder rungs of the industry and took the deserving, although self-acclaimed title of ‘Omo Baba Olowo’. There was actually nobody else best suited.
Today, he turns 22! And reminiscing on the past, this is certainly a milestone worth celebrating (if you ask me… given his track record of awards and global recognition attained this year alone). Davido has become an inspiration in ways we may have never acknowledged. Time may not allow us begin to count but we obviously can’t miss the many faces he’s put smiles on and how he’s made us dance, forgetting our worries. For us, that’s good reason enough to celebrate him.
